    State DNC Lists: Why Federal Compliance Isn't Enough

    Most agents know about the National Do Not Call Registry. Far fewer know that 17+ individual states maintain their own separate DNC lists — and that calling a number on a state list, even if it's not on the federal registry, can expose you to state-level fines and lawsuits.

    States like Florida, Texas, Indiana, and Wyoming have their own DNC registries with independent enforcement mechanisms. Florida's No Sales Solicitation Calls Act, for example, carries fines of up to $10,000 per violation for state-registered numbers — separate from any TCPA exposure. An insurance agent calling Florida prospects who only checks the federal registry is leaving significant legal risk on the table.

    The practical solution is simple: use a lead provider or scrubbing service that checks all state lists automatically, not just the federal registry. When evaluating vendors, ask specifically whether state DNC lists are included in their scrub, and which states they cover. If they only mention the National Registry, keep looking.
